Macaron Day: Will You Find a Golden Ticket?

Macaron day 2017

Every March, macaron-lovers around the world celebrate Macaron Day. The event was the brainchild of French pastry chef and chocolatier, Pierre Herme. In 2005, he wanted to bring the French delicacy into the international spotlight and for as many people as possible to taste these exquisite treats. In 2010, macaron shops in New York organised their own Macaron Day event and since then it has spread to other locations around the world.

Whilst Macaron Day is traditionally marked in March, at Macarons & More, we wanted to adopt our own take on the international phenomenon. Therefore, in September 2012, we hosted our first Macaron Day celebrations and the event proved so popular that it has taken place the same time each year since. This years’ event will be taking place on Saturday 9th September.

Tim Kinnaird, founder of Macarons & More, explained:

“Norfolk has a rich and diverse culinary culture, and we wanted to combine the county’s love of gastronomy with the delicate delight that is the moreish macaron. Our own Macaron Day has increased in popularly each year and it proved to be our most popular day of trading in 2016.”

Mouth-Watering and Intriguing Flavours

Each Macaron Day we like to titillate your taste buds with a variety of mouth-watering and intriguing flavours. In the past, our customers have enjoyed a Cromer Crab macaron, Pina Colada pineapple shaped macarons and even a Chicken Tikka Masala variety. This year we will be offering:

  • Watermelon and Marshmallow
  • Lucky Charms
  • Ferrero Roche
  • Egg & Bacon Mac Muffin
  • Bramble Cocktail
  • Kimchi

We will also be selling ‘The Macaroon Macron Macaron’ – a coconut biscuit macaron, featuring Emanuel Macron’s face.

Create Your Own Macaron

For the little ones, there is the chance to have their own dream macaron made and sold for Macaron Day in a competition. Catering for three age groups: 7 and under, 8-12 years and 13-16 years, we have already received an inspiring selection of entries. You can pick up an entry form in-store or download one here. The closing date for entries is Thursday 31st August 2017, so it is not too late to enter, but you will need to get your skates on!

Speaking about the competition, Tim Kinnaird added:

“Listening to what our customers like to eat has always been a vital part of the business. In previous years their suggestions have ended up being incorporated into our regular range. To be able to do this for our younger customers is very exciting and we’ve been delighted with the entries so far.”

In-Store Competitions

Visitors to the shop will also have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes on Macaron Day. We will be hiding twenty golden tickets in our macaron boxes. If you are lucky enough to find one of the tickets, you could win anything from a pencil to a mug or a box of macarons to a cookery school voucher. In addition to that, a ‘Guess the Flavour’ competition will also be running throughout the day.

So, if you are passing through Norwich city centre on Saturday 9th September, make sure you drop by our shop in the Royal Arcade between 9.30am and 5.30pm to join in the celebrations!
