Special Bake: Rainbow Cakes for Norwich Pride

Woman with a pride flag

Macarons are a colourful treat. A large part of their appeal is the range of colours and flavours that they come in. It might not seem possible but, this weekend, we are doing a special bake that will bring even more colour to our range of products.

In celebration of this year’s Norwich Pride on Saturday 29th July, we’ll be producing special limited-edition rainbow cakes and cookies. Be sure to pop into our shop in the Royal Arcade and try one (or both)!

Norwich Pride

Over the last decade or so, Norwich Pride has grown from humble beginnings to a huge festival celebrating the contribution of the city’s LGBT+ community. This year’s event will see stalls selling rainbow-themed goodies set up in the Forum and the traditional parade from City Hall to Chapelfield Gardens where there will be a fabulous stage show to entertain revellers. The whole event is a family-friendly inclusive affair and it's completely free!

The Rainbow Flag

The rainbow flag that has been adopted as the symbol of the LGBT+ community was devised in 1978 by San Francisco designer Gilbert Baker. The original flag had 8 colours: Hot pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo and violet. As the flag grew in popularity and he had to manufacture a lot more of them, Baker dropped the hot pink as the fabric was hard to come by. Since the 1980s, a six-colour version that blends turquoise and indigo into blue has become the standard.
