Spirited Delivery: English Whisky Macarons

Macarons and whisky

We’ve teamed up with another award-winning Norfolk company to bring you a world’s first: an English Whisky Macaron. The English Whisky Co. are based just down the A11 and, when they approached us earlier this year with the suggestion of a collaboration, Macarons and More founder Tim Kinnaird rose to the challenge of developing a whisky macaron.

The English – Smokey

The English Whisky Co., based at Roudham in Norfolk, has produced over 4,000 casks which are all maturing nicely in their warehouses. With so many great tipples to choose from, it took a lot of sampling to identify the right whisky for the English Whisky Macaron. Tim eventually chose the company’s The English – Smokey whisky.

This single malt whisky has won several awards, including Silver at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition earlier this year. It fools you at the first sip into thinking it is lightly-peated, before hitting you with a smoke bomb. Its aromas include macaron friendly scents such as vanilla, aniseed and ginger cake.

A Very Grown Up Cake

Speaking about the decision to join forces with The English Whisky Co. on this collaboration, Tim said:

“I was delighted to take up the challenge of developing a whisky macaron. This is a very grown up cake and something a bit different for us. We wanted to let the flavour of the whisky speak for itself. The English Whisky Co. team supplied us with a cask strength version of their Smokey whisky, that really packs a punch! The whisky is turned into a small jelly cube and placed in the middle of the macaron. We matched that with a surrounding stem ginger and white chocolate ganache”

About The English Whisky Co.

The English Whisky Co. succeeded in building the first distillery in England for over 120 years – St. George’s Distillery. The best barley grown in Norfolk, and Breckland water lends itself perfectly to spirit production; so, in a field owned by the Nelstrop family by the River Thet, footings were dug and building work commenced in 2006.

In December of that year, the company made the first 29 barrels of English whisky and by August 2007 The English Whisky Co. was opened to the public with a visitor centre, fantastic whisky shop and associated tours.

Our English Whisky Macarons will be available both instore and via the website for UK delivery from Friday 18th August. They are being sold for £1.70 each, £9.45 for a box of six and £17.95 for a box of 12.
